Memento Mori

The alarm system in Saint Petersburg’s famous Hermitage Museum was sabotaged during the latest coup. The perpetrator apparently switched a priceless work for a copy. Police Captain Sergej Vasilievic Ostankovic puts Larisa “Lara” Ivanova Svetlova, expert for art thefts, on the case undercover. At the same time, he has the means to force the ex-art counterfeiter Maxime “Max” Durand to help out. Together, Max and Lara set out to track down the culprit.

The pair soon stumbles upon a secret order called “Ikuinen Nukkuja” (Eternal Sleepers), which hides away in an old monastery deep in the dark forests of Finland. The order “collects” paintings which, having all been created by artists shortly before their death, carry the image of the Angel of Death hidden behind their layers of paint. It´s members believe that if they fulfil their duty to keep the Angel’s true form a secret, they will be rewarded with eternal life. Hence, they will stop at nothing... Their investigations take Max and Lara to Russia, Finland, France and Portugal as they get drawn deeper and deeper into the dangerous plot until, finally, more is at stake than they are prepared to sacrifice: first their sanity, and then their lives …
