The Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon, but in the meantime there are still so many amazing games to discover on the Switch 1. We’ve ranked our favourite Switch games so far. Let’s get into it!
In Stardew Valley, you inherit an overrun farm in a small village. By growing crops, raising animals and finding hidden treasure, you’ll restore this building to its former glory. Stardew Valley has been around for a while, but it’s still the number 1 go-to farming sim for most gamers. The endless options really allow you to make your own path, which means you can go in a completely different direction on every run.
Who doesn’t love the pink puffball Kirby? In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, it’s your mission to rescue the kidnapped Waddle Dees. Make your way through the abandoned cities of the Forgotten Land and battle against all sorts of enemies. With fun new adventures and features that allow Kirby to take all sorts of shapes, this game will keep you entertained for hours on end.
Donkey Kong Country is probably one of the most iconic Nintendo games ever. It was one of the first 16-bit games to introduce 3D-graphics, plus the fun gameplay and incredible soundtrack made for a super fun game. In 2010 the game returned in an updated version for the Wii and in 2025 an even more polished version of this game was released on the Switch. If you haven’t replayed this iconic game, we really recommend it! Even though the controls can be a bit difficult to figure out, the game is great for some couch co-op platforming fun.
The third instalment in the Xenoblade trilogy combines the best of the first two games. The developer's goal was to make a story-driven game with the same style and feel as the first two games. The story takes place amidst a brutal war on the planet Aionios. Six soldiers of the rival clans decide to set aside their differences and battle an even bigger threat. The story takes insane turns that you don’t see coming, and of course there are enough crazy beasts to go around! The Definitive Edition has all of this, plus some great improvements like: more detailed character models, a cleaner user interface, and upscaled assets.
When a group of space travellers gets stuck on a distant planet, you’re the only one that can get them back. Luckily, the strange creatures that inhabit this world (the Pikmin) are ready to help. Command the beings and their special powers to fight enemies, search for treasures and solve puzzles. The fourth game in this series adds new Pikmin with ice and glowing powers, which adds some fun options. Plus, Pikmin 4 introduces the adorable dog-like Pikmin Oatchi which makes this game a definite must-play in our opinion.
Can a game be both a relaxing fishing simulator and a sushi restaurant managing game in one? Absolutely! Dave the Diver is a fun ocean-themed adventure. During the day, you hunt exotic fish and at night you help run a sushi restaurant. But waters are full of peculiar secrets that you discover along the way. Dave the Diver is a hilarious adventure and the game quickly became a fan favourite among indie game lovers.
Nintendo decided to dig in their own repertoire and remastered the classic first-person shooter Metroid Prime for the Switch, and we’re glad they did! In this game, you play as the lone hunter, Samus Aran, in her discovery of the planet Tallon IV. The remastered version's biggest upgrade is the controls, but it also introduces huge updates in the presentation of the game as well as the soundtracks. All these things combined make it feel like a completely new experience.
The magical continent Fódlan consists of three powerful nations and amidst it all lies the academy where future leaders learn all the skills they need. You’re a former mercenary that has sworn to a life of teaching. Now, you need to choose which house you belong to and the students you want to take to the battlefield. The game features the detailed battle strategies the series is known for, but also gives the player a gripping story to get lost in. Besides, the character design and artwork in this game is impeccable.
Create your own paradise on the water in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As you set foot on this island, you’ll meet adorable characters and start your own life here. Get busy fishing, fossil hunting or insect catching. All the while, you decorate your own place with cute furniture and accessories. This game is all about taking it slow and enjoying the small things in life. Just sit back, relax and get lost in this world.
A rogue-like dungeon crawler with quick action and a deep character-driven story: that perfectly sums up Hades. You play as the Prince of the Underworld who has to fight his way out of the grasp of the God of the Underworld. Along your journey, you meet and get help from hundreds of gods, ghouls, and monsters. How you interact with the different characters has an impact on the connections you have with them, and bosses will remember you when you encounter them again. That makes this game perfect for replays and endless fun.
Mario Kart is one of the most iconic racing games. With the wacky circuits, crazy power-ups and vast assortment of racing cars, it is almost impossible not to love this game. All the best parts of this racing franchise come together in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: the game has a fun mix of old (but gold) circuits and new ones. Also, there are as many as 42 racers to choose from. If you don’t have this one yet, it’s definitely a must-play on your Nintendo Switch!
We all know and love the Pokémon game franchise. Every game follows a young trainer trying to become the very best (like no one ever was) and you need to capture Pokémon to achieve this goal. Pokémon Legends: Arceus turns this around. The game adds some RPG-elements like story-driven main missions and side quests. It also takes place in an open world that you can explore however you want (which is different from the usual going from town to town). Aside from that, there’s crafting and you can capture Pokémon without battling them.
There’s only one game where you can see Mario go up against Isabelle from Animal Crossing in a street fighter style battle. That game is Super Smash Bros Ultimate! This insane fighting game has been a hit with Nintendo fans since it was first released in 1999. And now new players get to enjoy it on the Switch. With as many as 76 fighters to pick from and even more crazy weapons, this game walks the perfect line between chaos and fighting that we come to love this series for.
A list of the best Nintendo Switch games wouldn’t be complete with everyone's favourite Italian plumber. Since its release in 2017, Super Mario Odyssey has become one of the top best-selling Switch games. The game is praised for its originality in gameplay. Cappy allows Mario to take on the form of any opponent he comes across. The game also takes you to familiar places all over the world, which is very different from the Mushroom Kingdom we usually see in Mario games. It’s fun to see the iconic character in different settings, and it feels like a fresh new step for the franchise.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the follow-up to the popular Breath of the Wild game. With such an iconic predecessor, there was a lot of anticipation for this game, and Tears of the Kingdom did not disappoint! The story takes place a year after Breath of the Wild. Link and Zelda embark on a dangerous journey to discover the secrets behind the chaos in this kingdom. With the skies, ground, and depths at your feet, the exploration options are almost endless. Aside from that, you can create your own weapons and ways of transporting, bringing some surprising twists to the game. The game looks incredible, and it’s so easy to get lost in the magical land that it’ll have you hooked for hours on end.
