The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is free for PlayStation Plus!
The Final Fantasy VII remake is one of this month’s free games for PlayStation Plus members. The original game was a huge success in 1997 and is still one of the most popular Final Fantasy titles ever. No wonder that Square Enix has decided to lift this adventure up to the NextGen-level. But what is it that made the original game so popular? And how does this 90’s magic translate to the modern version of this game?
The original Final Fantasy VII was revolutionary for its time. For many players it was their very first RPG, played on their very first PlayStation console. The graphics were, especially for 1997 standards, downright impressive from both a technical and artistic point of view. With an immense world, interesting characters and an epic storyline. Final Fantasy 7 was innovative and thus it easily found its way inside many living rooms. Who hasn't grown up with this game?
Okay, for those of you who answered "no" to the previous question, here’s the plot: You play as the mercenary Cloud Strife and work for eco-terrorist movement AVALANCHE to fight against Shinra Electric Power Company. This mega-corporation sucks the "life" out of the earth for the sole purpose of making more profit. Hmm, this game still sounds pretty relevant in 2021 doesn't it? Anyway, it makes Final Fantasy VII a time capsule that is also super accessible for contemporary concepts. And as is already the case with many other forms of entertainment - just look at movies and music - games can no longer escape a reboot.
Of course, such remakes aren’t always a success, and often result in disappointed fans. For the Final Fantasy VII Remake however, this is not the case! Fortunately, the creators have kept the magic intact and stayed true to the aspects that made the original so good. That is why this reboot is such a gem for both the "old" and new players.
Not to mention the PS5 update that this game is currently getting, which is expected to be released in June, even including some new content! The current, free-to-download PS Plus offer is still the PS4 version. But don't worry, that one’s also more than worth it! Whether you are an old acquaintance of Cloud and his friends, or take on this adventure completely new to the franchise, you won’t regret it!
