GTA 6 release date: November 19, 2026

On November 9, 2025, Rockstar Games released an official statement announcing that GTA 6 will launch on November 19, 2026. After two prior delays, the game company claimed it needed more time and pushed back the release date again. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve”, Rockstar Games explained.

GTA 6 Extended Look reveals new gameplay

On August 27, 2026, Rockstar Games gave us our biggest look at GTA 6 yet with Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. The 26-minute showcase was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5 and revealed tons of new gameplay details. We got a closer look at the reworked six-star Wanted system, seamless switching between Jason and Lucia, more realistic NPCs, character customisation and lifestyle mechanics, car theft, combat and the many activities you can discover throughout Leonida.

Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2

On May 6, 2025, Rockstar Games dropped the 2nd trailer for GTA VI. Where the first trailer followed Lucia, in this one, we get a closer look at her male counterpart, Jason. We see him going about his day in Vice City, and eventually, he picks up Lucia from jail. The new trailer also reveals the full names of the characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, as well as the (former) release date: May 26, 2026.

The 1st GTA 6 trailer

On December 5, 2023, the reveal trailer for GTA 6 was released. The trailer came out earlier than expected thanks to leaked footage appearing on X. The official trailer on Rockstar Games' YouTube channel was viewed more than 40 million times within 7 hours of its release.

What we know about GTA 6

We've thoroughly analysed both the GTA 6 trailers, and here are the facts.

What is the location of GTA 6?

The trailers both show scenes of beautiful beaches, tall apartment towers, and palm trees. We can even see airboats racing through swamps, and a crocodile storming into a store. As soon as the large letters “Vice” appear, it's undeniable: GTA 6 is set in Vice City, inspired by Miami!

What time period is GTA 6 set in?

The trailers feature social media images of people partying, which confirms that the game is set in the present day.

Who are the main characters of GTA 6?

The game will follow the criminal duo Lucia and Jason, who are claimed to be a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. When we meet Lucia, she's freshly out of prison and ready with a plan to change the odds in her favour. Jason has been around crime his whole life and came to Leonida Keys to find an easier life. Meeting Lucia might be the best thing that's ever happened to him, or lead him down an even more complicated path. 

In the game, you switch between these two main characters. Their relationship is at the forefront of this story, and you get to decide how deep their love goes. Rockstar has also officially confirmed that how you treat their relationship will have a big influence on the story.

What will the GTA 6 map look like?

GTA 6 will be big. Rockstar has confirmed it'll be their biggest and most immersive evolution of Grand Theft Auto yet. Unfortunately, we don't have an official map yet, but we do know the story takes place all across the state of Leonida, including big cities, industrial towns and national parks. All confirmed areas are:

What's new in GTA 6 gameplay?

So what does the GTA 6 gameplay actually look like? That's the question on every gamer's mind. In GTA VI: Extended Look, we finally got a first look at the gameplay, and there are some exciting new features. This is what's coming to GTA 6:

• Switch between playing as Jason or Lucia.
• Shape the love between the main characters with the relationship system.
• The six-star wanted system returns.
• Explore a criminal profile system alongside the wanted level. 
• Car theft becomes more detailed with new ways to get into a vehicle.
• Updated cover-based combat and slow-motion targeting.
• Change the way your character looks based on exercise, food and lifestyle.
• NPCs are more reactive with a wider variety of appearances and behaviours.
• A fully integrated in-game social media system.
• Side-activities like basketball, diving, kayaking, racing and parachuting.
• Safehouses are designed to feel like actual homes and become more interactive.

What platforms will GTA 6 be on?

As of now, Take Two has confirmed that GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release date or any other platforms have not been revealed yet. 

When will GTA 6 be released?

Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will be released on November 19, 2026, on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XIS. The PC release will probably follow soon after, but there's no date for that yet. According to a leak, GTA 6 might come to PCs in February 2027.
