Steam Points are essentially free credit that you receive when you purchase anything on the Steam platform. One euro on Steam equals 106 Steam Points. You can spend your Steam Points at the Steam Point shop. 

What can I do with Steam Points?

You spend Steam Points at the Steam Points shop to spice up your profile with fun avatars and backgrounds, or buy emoticons and stickers to use in a chat. This way you can show your appreciation for your favourite games and other players on the platform. 

Prices for these upgrades range, but you can get an Animated avatar for 3.000 points and a frame or background for 2.000 points. 

How do I earn Steam Points?

You earn Steam Points automatically when you make a purchase on Steam. For every euro you spend, you receive 106 points. That means if you buy a game or DLC for €15,99 you’ll receive around 1.695 points. You also earn points when someone gives you an award for a review or other uploads such as screenshots, videos, and guides.

Note: You don’t receive Steam Points for recharging your Steam Wallet or for any Steam Community Market purchases

How to buy items with Steam Points

Unfortunately, you can’t use Steam Points to buy or get a discount on new games. But you can use it for any item in the Steam Points Shop. 

Found a background, badge, or avatar you like? This is how you purchase it:

1. Go to store.steampowered.com/points/shop
2. Click on the item you want
3. Click on the blue button
4. You now have the item, you can click on Equip Now to use it immediately!
   
   

How to use Steam Points to give an award

Read an incredibly useful review on Steam and want to show your appreciation? Give the creator an award! They come in multiple fun options like slow clap, treasure chest and more. Prices range from 200 to 4.800 points. This is how you do it:

1. Go to the review or post you like
2. Click on Award
3. Choose the award you want
4. Click on Next
5. Click on Give Award and you’re done!
