Roblox - Create, Share, and Play Games

Roblox is an online game platform where you play, create, and share games. All users are free to play the games on Roblox or create their own games using the tools Roblox provides. These games are all in 3D style and span a wide range of genres.

All the games you find on Roblox are made by the users themselves. They do this using the Lua programming language. Lua is a scripting language, similar to HTML and JavaScript. If you're interested in discovering the basics of game design, Roblox is a fun and educational way to gain experience.

Roblox is completely free-to-play. Anyone can sign up and start playing immediately. While playing, you have the option to make in-game purchases. For this, you use Robux, the in-game currency of Roblox.

When was Roblox released?

Roblox was developed in 2004 and was originally called DynaBlocks. In 2005, the name changed to Roblox, and in 2006 the platform was officially launched. The Roblox Premium membership as we know it today was formerly known as Builders Club, but was rebranded in 2019.

The Roblox platform and the underlying company, Roblox Corporations, remained small for a long time. They often flew under the radar because there were also many other gaming platforms and similar enterprises emerging at the time. Since 2010, Roblox has been growing faster and especially during the pandemic, the platform became extremely popular.

Who is the creator of Roblox?

Roblox was created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel. Before founding Roblox, David had a company called Knowledge Revolution. This company focused on educational physics and mechanical simulation software. David created a physics simulator called Interactive Physics, which was essentially a precursor to Roblox.

David met Erik Cassel when his company was acquired by MSC Software Corporation. Together, they left the company in 2004 to establish Roblox Corporations.

Unfortunately, Erik Cassel passed away in 2023 from cancer. The staff at Roblox confirmed the news on February 11, and a memorial was held in the game on February 12. Hundreds of players gathered at the Erik Cassel Memorial to mourn the founder, and on February 15, Roblox created the 'Official Erik Shirt' in memory of Erik.

Where is Roblox from?

Roblox is from America. You can find its headquarters in California, in the city of San Mateo.

Who was the first Roblox player?

There are many rumors about the first Roblox players. Here are some of the oldest accounts:

  • Admin: Most people agree that Admin was the first account on Roblox. This character was created by David Baszucki on June 30, 2004, to test the platform. The account has since been discontinued and replaced by the character Roblox.
  • Jane and John Doe: Like Admin, Jane and John Doe were test accounts made by Roblox. They were created on June 25, 2005, and the profiles are still live.

Is Roblox safe for children?

The age rating for Roblox states: "Suitable for everyone aged 10 and older." This means that the typical gameplay is appropriate for most children. However, as a parent (as with all online games), you should be aware that it is possible to communicate with others via chat, create and share games on Roblox.

In-game purchases

It is possible to sell self-made games on Roblox, so naturally you can make purchases within the platform. As a parent, be aware of any (unforeseen) expenses. The Roblox Robux cards from Startselect are the perfect solutions for that. With the cards, you can give your child a maximum amount to spend on the platform without sharing credit card details.

Inappropriate Content

Roblox is very proactive in monitoring the content that is put on the platform. But with about 70 million active users per month, sometimes something slips through. Think of a swear word or other inappropriate content that is too scary for the youngest players. Fortunately, it is easy for parents to determine what a child sees through special Parental Controls.

Parents can limit in-game chat functions and adjust access based on age recommendations. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your child's Roblox account
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Click on Security
  4. Here you will find various safety options that you can enable

Creating a Roblox Account

Creating an account on Roblox is simple! Follow these steps:

  1. Go to roblox.com
  2. Here you are immediately asked to create an account
  3. Fill in your details and click on Sign Up, and you're ready to play!
