A new Pokémon game is coming in 2027. This time, you’ll travel to an island with a unique ecosystem. What are the differences between Pokémon Winds and Waves? We’ll tell you everything you need to know in this blog.
If you want to see all the differences between Pokémon Winds and Waves, we’ve listed them in the table below for you:
| Winds | Waves | |
|---|---|---|
| Player Outfits | White accessories | Blue accessories |
| Pikachu Mascot | Mr. Windychu | Ms. Wavychu |
| Exclusive Pokémon | Not known yet | Not known yet |
| Cover Legendary | Not known yet | Not known yet |
A couple of differences between Pokémon Winds and Waves are known already.
Player Outfits
One confirmed alteration between Pokémon Winds and Waves is the outfits the protagonists wear. In the Winds version, the cap, backpack, gloves and other accessories are all white. In Pokémon Waves, these items are all blue.
Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu
Each of the new Pokémon games has its own Pikachu mascot. For Winds, this is Mr. Windychu, and for Waves, it's Ms. Wavychu. It’s not known yet whether these Pokémon have any special powers or how they’ll help you in the game.
Not a lot is known about the Pokémon Winds and Waves games, so there are still some expected differences that haven’t been confirmed yet.
Exclusive Pokémon
Usually, when a new Pokémon game releases, the two versions will have exclusive Pokémon that can only be found in that specific game. It’s likely that Pokémon Winds and Waves will have this feature too, but Nintendo hasn’t announced it yet.
Cover Legendary
Since Pokémon Gold and Silver, each Pokémon game with two versions has had a different Legendary Pokémon on the cover. Will Pokémon Winds and Waves have two distinct covers? They likely will, but we don’t know for sure yet.
Like always, there are also similarities between the two versions. For example, the starter Pokémon that you can choose from will be the same in both games: Browt, Pombon and Gecqua. Aside from that, the setting and region you’ll get to explore are also the same.
Both Pokémon Winds and Waves also release on the same date in 2027, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Now the remaining question is whether you should buy Pokémon Winds or Pokémon Waves. Generally, it doesn’t really matter which Pokémon game you buy since you get the same experience with both. Once the lists of Pokémon are out, you can compare each game’s exclusives and see which version suits you best.
One thing is for sure: as soon as Pokémon Winds and Waves are available, you can instantly buy them with Nintendo eShop Cards from Startselect.
