What's new in Mario Golf: Super Rush?

Nintendo has once again gone out of its way to get as close as possible to a real round of golf. For example, you can play the game by actually waving the Joy-Con controller as if it were a golf club. If you’re still fond of your interior however, you can also choose to play it by means of the buttons, to reduce the risk of over-enthusiastic swings. Safety first! 

There’s no less than 16 Mario characters in this game that you can play with! With a wide range of different golf courses, all of which look beautiful. Or play with your Mii character and up to 3 other players, both locally and online in the multiplayer function. Mario Golf: Super Rush really has something fun for everyone and is a great game to enjoy with friends and family! 

The different Playstyles

In Mario Golf: Super Rush you can choose from a cast of up to 16 characters, which you obviously know from the other Mario games. Each character has their very own skills and unique special moves which can help you on the different courses and in the different game modes.

For example, there’s a Speedgolf feature where multiple players simultaneously hit their ball around the course. The goal is to be the first player to hit your ball into the hole. You can imagine this will undoubtedly turn out as a crazy race around the golf courses where you can get speed boosts and sabotage the other players. A bit like Mario Kart, but with golf. Mayhem guaranteed! 

Then there’s the Flaghunting function that actually brings even more chaos to your screen than Speedgolf. You play on nine holes at the same time. The first player to complete three holes is the winner, so make sure you always stay one step ahead of the others!

It’s also possible to play Adventure mode with your Mii character. In this mode, you play solo and train your own Mii from a rookie golfer to an absolute pro. In this adventure, you’re a member of a posh country club where you can train and take on challenges against or with all the well-known Mario characters. With the points you earn, you’ll increase your level and skills, which will then come in handy once you play the Multiplayer function!

In addition, you can also play “standard” Golf in this game. Well, standard… Although the controls are very smooth, it takes quite some practice and skill to get a good shot! The game offers great features that help you hit the perfect hole-in-one. But you have to take into account - just like in real life - the wind and other elements on the golf course like obstacles, the slope and surface of the landscape. 

You will of course receive help, for instance from your so-called 'shot gauge', which shows you how the ball deviates on a slope. You can also scan the course to calculate your perfect shot depending on the terrain you're on.

Can you play Mario Golf online?

You sure can! Nintendo wouldn't be Nintendo if it weren't possible to play this game together with friends, family and of course online. With up to 3 other players you can play fun golf matches together, both locally and online! 

To play Mario Golf: Super Rush online you do need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Don't have it? Then you can still play this game offline and locally.
