Gaming together on Valentine's Day, how romantic! So especially for those competitive couples out there: read all about the best (local) co-op games for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC here!

Published on: 10-02-2022

In the game of love, you either play or you get played. Someone once said that. We don't know if it's true. What we do know is that there are plenty of fun co-op games to play with your special someone. This way you have something fun to do on Valentine's Day (or any other 364 days of the year) with your favorite person. But beware! We have a collection of the best co-op games to put your relationship to the test. Try something different than flowers, poems or chocolates as a Valentine's gift this year. And has your significant other failed these ultimate relationship test games? A new Valentine is only one Swipe away.

The best co-ops for handymen and homemakers

Looking for a new challenge in addition to watching Netflix together? Or maybe you don't live together (yet)? Try these games to get a taste of that home-sweet-home lifestyle. Perhaps your other half could be a bit more active with chores? Play these games to help them get excited about it!

Or not, of course. So play at your own risk!

Overcooked 1 + 2

This game is great for home cooks and kitchen princesses. If your honeybunny can't fry an egg in real life, this game might offer the solution! That, or you'll be single again very soon. Teamwork and multitasking is key, so this game is probably not great for hot headed couples who get burned easily. Prepare to roast, or get roasted!
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Tools up!

Is your relationship built on a steady foundation? Prove it in Tools up! In this game you are in the middle of a major renovation. Laying floors, painting, construction, you name it! Together you have to bring this to a successful ending, with all the chaos that comes with it. Dreamhouse or dump(ed)? It all depends on how you hold up in Tools up!
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One

Moving Out

To stay in the house-theme, successfully moving is the objective here. Are you going to live together in the near future? Then Moving Out offers the ultimate relationship test in a gaming guise. Just like with renovation, it is sometimes said that moving house together is the only way to really get to know the other person. So try this stressful game together before you start packing boxes in real life. Just don't be surprised if one of you actually packs their bags and leaves after losing!
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Minecraft

What could be more romantic than building a dream house together? If this is something you and your lover long for, but you don’t want to break the bank: practice in Minecraft! How do you want the interior to be? After a little Google search, countless Build A House Tutorials will come up, so you will certainly not be the first to use Minecraft to build your dream house together. Understandable too, with today's house prices.
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 3 & 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Challenging co-ops for the real Quarrel-Champions

The following co-ops may be a bit more challenging, so they lead to more discussions. So if there are some things between you two still unspoken, get ready to stir up some trouble!  And if your relationship still feels like a romantic comedy, just play a few rounds of the games below. After that, it’s probably more like a violent Tarantino movie with you two swearing and cursing at each other. Let the good times roll!

It Takes Two
£34.99
Super Smash Bros: Ultimate
£59.99

Portal 2

Portal 2 is of course already a sublime game in itself, but with the challenging co-op mode it's a party! Your campaign suddenly turns into an almost impossible-to-solve duo puzzle. If anything will get you bickering, it's Portal 2. So pick up your Portal Guns together and enjoy the mistakes your Portal-Partner makes. Make it even more confusing by drinking a shot every time you’ll “I told you so!” and don’t be surprised if you wake up on the couch hungover the next morning.
Platforms: Linux, Macintosh, PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360

It Takes Two

Of course, this game cannot be missing from the list! You take on the role of Cody and May, who recently decided to split up. The aim of this game is to stay together for your daughter Rose. With It Takes Two you can star in your own romantic comedy, with each new level offering different challenges for each of you. In addition to the co-op, there are also many fun minigames that you can play with or against each other. This is a good practice for the non-gaming partners to get into it, before you start playing the campaign together.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series

Super Smash Bros

Some discussions can only get solved with some good old brawling. The only domestic violence that we do not disapprove of is this classic, Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Empty toilet roll? Garbage not taken out on time? Empty carton of milk in the fridge? Settle it once and for all with a spirited slugfest. Or, if you're one of those "we’re a perfect team" type of people, show another couple how it's done!
Platforms: Nintendo Switch (Ultimate), voorlopers op Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Wii, GameCube en Nintendo64

Unravel 2

This game is actually so cute and lovely, you can't imagine it could ever lead to bickering. Guess again. The common thread in this story is that you and your partner are two 'Yarnys' and you’re stuck with/to each other. Literally and figuratively. Mentally prepare yourself for the fact that you will regularly get tangled with each other (and with yourself). Especially if the other person is happily swinging around while you are still stuck and can't swing any further because the wire is too short, because the other one’s still happily swinging. Frustration will ensue. After playing this game you at least know whether you really want to tie the knot, or whether the relationship is hanging by a thread. Okay, hard stop.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

The coziest Co-op Party Games for the Swingers

If you prefer to play with more than just your sweetheart, or if you like to swap partners once in a while (we don't judge) then you can always try one of these party games. The more the merrier, right? It's also the best way for you as a couple to feel superior to those other amateurs, because only the perfect match can survive these challenges together!

Mario Kart

This title really needs no explanation. Blue shields have already destroyed many friendships, and that is no different with relationships. We have yet to meet the couple who still look at each other lovingly after a round of Rainbow Road. And yet you keep picking up that controller again for another round, because this game is bananas.
Platforms: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, New Nintendo 3DS

Mario Party

As you are used to from Mario and Nintendo, with Mario Party you’ll play a colorful and cheerful game together. In addition to luck in love, Mario Party also requires a bit of stupid luck in the game. Occasionally you can just o take everything away from your fellow player(s) at the very last minute. If annoying your darling is your greatest hobby, make sure to invite yourself to this Party.
Platforms:Nintendo 64, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Nintendo Switch

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

If you both possess nerves of steel this party game is the bomb! Time to get together and dismantle some bombs. One gives instructions by means of a manual while the other has to explain what the bomb looks like. Communication is the key to survival here, because that is the only way you will find out which cable is being cut or which button needs pushing. Has your relationship become a ticking time bomb after this game? Just keep talking and you'll probably work it out together. Or, you’ll go out with a bang!
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Android, macOS, Xbox One, Linux, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, Mac OS

Rayman Legends

Another party game to make life miserable for your fellow players is Rayman Legends. In this 2D platformer you all play on the same screen. Those who are left behind too much will pay with their lives. Fortunately, you can then come back like a balloon, and a fellow player can bring you back to life (a bit like Baby Mario in Yoshi’s Story). Always expect your significant other to take on the task of reviving you! There are plenty of frustrating moments in this game, but it’s often so funny that you almost forget the cracks that are forming in your relationship.
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Still going strong together after playing these games? Then you still have to look for a (last minute) Valentine's gift! Good thing you’re already in the right place, because you can send the perfect gift(card) with our Send A Gift Card module! And on our Valentine's Promo Page you will find all the deals and promotions to make it a romantic day, whether you are together or single. Happy Valentine’s!
