  2. If the gym is in your team’s color, place a Pokémon inside it to defend it.
  3. If the gym is controlled by another team, battle the defending Pokémon to take it over, then place your Pokémon inside to defend it.
  4. When your Pokémon is defeated, you'll automatically receive PokéCoins for defending the gym.

Yes, while Pokémon Go doesn’t have a direct option to gift PokéCoins, you can still work around this by giving someone an Apple Gift Card or Google Play Gift Card. The recipient can then use the gift card to purchase PokéCoins in the game.
