What is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart about?

The dynamic duo is back after a long sabbatical and thankfully they are all set for a new, interdimensional adventure! In Rift Apart, they once again have to deal with the nasty Dr. Nefarious who intends to wipe out all organic life. And not only this dimension, but he wants to do it in every dimension possible!

In this intergalactic spectacle, you'll travel through dimensional fissures and warp from side to side while taking out evil robots and other space-scumbags. It’s also possible to visit different planets, some which you have already discovered in the previous Ratchet & Clank games. In addition, there are a lot more planets and alternative dimensions to explore. One thing is for sure, there is plenty to do and see in Rift Apart!

The story in short is as follows: dimensional chaos is about to destroy all life in this and alternate universes. Not one but two(!) Lombaxes this time, accompanied by everyone’s favorite sidekick robot, have to take on an evil emperor to save their, and any other universe! Thrills and challenges are lurking behind every corner!

New characters, weapons and locations

That one Lombax we mentioned is of course Ratchet, and that cute robot is his buddy Clank. But in Rift Apart, a third Lombax called Rivet is introduced. This feisty rebel fighter is also a playable character who will join in the fight against Dr. Nefarius to stop the destruction of the universe!

The arrival of a second playable Lorax fueled some speculation about a possible co-op feature in Rift Apart. This is unfortunately not the case, because this Ratchet & Clank edition will also remain a single-player. Although that’s too bad, it should definitely not spoil the fun, because there is a lot more to experience in Rift Apart, even if you’re on your own!

Of course, you’ll never be completely on your own. Because Ratchet & Clank wouldn’t be Ratchet & Clank without some big guns! As always, there are plenty of weapons and gadgets that will assist you on your path to victory! The Ratchet & Clank series is known for the array of exotic weapons to choose from. Fortunately, this is no different in Rift Apart. You will soon discover the Burst Pistol and the Topiary Sprinkler as a new addition to the weapon arsenal. And you'll probably also be eager to use the brand new Shatterbomb. It's going to be another explosive battle against a multidimensional robot plague in this colorful new game. We’re hyped! 

PlayStation 5 Exclusive gameplay

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is developed by Insomniac Games and released exclusively by Sony. This game will only be available to enjoy on the PlayStation 5. Are you one of the (few) owners of this console? Then something astonishingly beautiful awaits you! This is a (still rare) next-gen game, which was made exclusively for the PS5, whereas many other PS5 games are updated remakes of their PS4 predecessors. But not this one! This gem is literally MADE for the PS5 features. And it shows!

Unfortunately for all gamers who do not (yet) own a PlayStation 5, this game will not be released on the PS4 for the time being. It is expected that the incomparable visual quality of Ratchet & Clank will be an extra incentive to buy this console as soon as possible.
