This is what you need to know about Guerrilla Games

The Dutch company, formerly known as Lost Boys Games, went through a lot of changes, such as mergers, name changes, you name it! But eventually they became the Guerrilla Games we know today. And even though they are now well known worldwide, the headquarters is still based in Amsterdam.

Full focus on PlayStation

Previously, Guerrilla Games also developed games for Xbox and PC. But since the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2005, they now exclusively focus on PlayStation platforms. This means that you can play Horizon Zero Dawn and the new Horizon Forbidden West on your PlayStation 4 or 5!

Other Guerrilla Games video games

The Dutch studio has been developing games for a while now. In 2004, they developed their first big game ShellShock: Nam '67 under the name Guerrilla Games. After that, they became super famous for the cool Killzone games; Killzone 1, 2 and 3, Killzone Shadow Fall and Killzone Liberation.

Guerrilla Games broadens its Horizon

In 2017, Guerrilla Games developed the wildly popular game Horizon Zero Dawn. They even won a Gouden Kalf for "Beste Interactive"! Did you already finish this spectacular game? Don't worry. The release date of the latest Horizon game is finally here!

Our top 5 Dutch games

You might not expect it, but besides the Horizon games, the Netherlands has developed many more epic games! We’ve put together a small selection of the best Dutch games for you:

5. The Blob

Originally, eight students from Utrecht came up with this game and developed it for the PC. But after the release, an American company named THQ became so enthusiastic about the Blob, that they subsequently gained the rights to this game. Later, this puzzle game was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and many more platforms.

In this game, all colors and joy have been driven out of the world. Therefore, it is your task to rid the world of the enemy and bring back all colors and joy! You can play the game alone, or co-op with a maximum of four players at once.

4. Overlord

Overlord was developed by Lennart Sas of Triumph Studios. It remains one of the most epic Dutch developed games of all time. Fun fact: it was the very first Dutch game released on the PlayStation 3!

In this single player game you play the Overlord, a bad guy who has just been defeated by seven heroes. With the help of many, very active, giggling Gremlin-like creatures, it is your goal to defeat these seven warriors!

3. Awesomenauts

This 2D multiplayer online battle arena game was developed by the same Utrecht-based developers as De Blob, namely by Ronimo Games. The game came out in 2012, but it still remains an awesome game to this day. Especially since several expansions have been released later.

Your goal is to eliminate the Solar Collector, or drill, of the opposing team. To do this, you’re in a team of three players. You can choose from a variety of characters, each with their own set of skills. The game is playable on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4!

2. Killzone-serie

First person shooter, world-building and space-nazis; these are the words that best describe Guerrilla Games' Killzone games. In an era of space colonization, you wage war against the Helghast Empire. Your task is to liberate the home planet of the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) and to banish the space-nazis forever.

1. Horizon Zero Dawn

As you might have expected, Horizon Zero Dawn has claimed the well-deserved first place on our list. In this action RPG from Guerrilla Games, you play Aloy, a hunter of the Nora tribe. You find yourself in an apocalyptic open world, full of machines and robotic animals. During your voyage of discovery, you search for answers to your questions. Because who are you, exactly? And how can you defeat the source of evil?
