Hogwarts Legacy will be released around the holidays of 2022. You’re excited to explore the Wizarding World - as a dark wizard. But is it even possible to become evil in Hogwarts Legacy? All aboard the Hogwarts Express hype-train, and we'll tell you everything we know about the new Harry Potter game: Hogwarts Legacy!
Just admit it, you’ve drowned some Sims here and there, or made a ride in Rollercoaster Tycoon explode on occasion. There’s no shame in exploring the darker side of your personality while gaming. With the new Hogwarts Legacy game on its way, everyone’s curious about what it’s like to be a charismatic dark wizard. Sometimes it’s just really good to be bad, you know? Like Dolores Umbridge, Voldemort or Bellatrix LeStrange: every single one of them is an interesting character. Evil, yes, but fascinating nonetheless! It would make anyone wonder… ‘What would it be like to be an evil wizard in the world of Harry Potter?’
During Sony’s most recent gameplay showcase, we finally got some answers to this Incendio-like question that has to be on everybody’s mind.
Yes and no. While you can’t become an actual villain, it is possible to wield dark magic and play as an evil wizard in Hogwarts Legacy. As it’s an open world RPG you have plenty of ways to customize your character, choose your house and develop your magical skills and powers. Going by current information, it looks like you can at least choose to be in House Slytherin, and we all know that’s where all the bad wizards come from. So there’s that.
But there are more reasons to believe that Hogwarts Legacy will allow you to be an evil wizard. Somewhere near the end of the trailer, it is hinted that your character can indeed go “down a darker path” while showing the Avada Kedavra curse killing an unknown opponent. Praise Merlin and bless your not-so-innocent heart. Looks like you’ll be ‘Managing some Mischief’ after all, you psycho.
A bit further in the State of Play video you can see there’s a possibility to befriend certain students, and gain a companion. One of the friends you can choose is a ‘charismatic Slytherin student’ who will no doubt get you into some troublesome quests. Which honestly sounds like a whole lot of fun, actually. Oh, and it just so happens you possess a power to wield ancient, forgotten magic. This kind of makes you the chosen one to decide on the fate of the Wizarding World, but don’t let that stop you from being an excellent student now!
So, character development choices aside, there is a storyline and plot you’ll probably have to follow. Again, judging from what we saw in the video, there’s a link between the Goblin Rebellion and some dark wizards, and they seem to be your enemies in the main quest. You don’t need Divination classes to figure out that you’ll have to go against these guys at some point, to get ahead in the game and see the story unfold. Even if you aspire to be the most evil, wicked, loathsome wizard that Hogwarts has ever seen, you still just need to defeat the baddies and save our magic world, mkay?
Sony’s State of Play tells us that the game-play is all about exploring, which truly is about 90% of the hype if you ask us. Imagine being able to actually visit Hogwarts, interact with all its secret passages and on top of that: being able to go beyond its borders! Going outside, into the forbidden forest, Hogsmeade, the school grounds and even the outskirts. You can let out your evil wizard in combat any time, especially in the outskirts. There are enough enemies to defeat and plenty of awesome spells to do so.
Seriously, who cares if you can choose between becoming an evil wizard or a nice one, you’re gonna be an actual wizard and go to a magical school! What more could you possibly wish for? Magical Puzzles? Done. Iconic locations you can finally explore? Got ‘em. Potions, herbology, fantastic beasts? It’s all there. Quidditch? Hmm, they didn’t really mention Quidditch explicitly in the video, but the way to quickly get around the map is by broom, so there’s that!
Now what else would this game need? The Room of Requirement! Hogwarts Legacy would not be complete without it, and this seems to be where you can get everything you need to catch up to the other students, because you just transferred there and are starting in the 5th year. Luckily, you’ll get all the help you need to give Hermione a run for her money, would she be there.
All in all, fans will recognize a lot of elements in the Hogwarts Legacy world, but the game really looks like it’s for everyone: a magical world coming to life. Who would have thought we would all be so excited about a game where the main objective is basically going to school?
Spoilers: Harry Potter nor Hermoine will be in the game, because Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1800’s. Unless they can timetravel, of course! This time setting is probably a positive thing, as it means you are creating an entirely new magical adventure without interfering with the franchise and characters we already know and love.
Hogwarts Legacy will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Last but not least, Hogwarts Legacy will also be available for PC.
You're probably wondering when Hogwarts Legacy is coming out. Well, Hogwarts Legacy is expected to release during the Holiday Season of 2022. It would make an exceptionally great Christmas gift, if you ask us! Almost like receiving your very own Hogwarts Acceptance Letter from Dumbledore himself. Guess what we’re putting on our wish lists this year! How about you?
It’s still too early to pre-order Hogwarts Legacy, so you won’t find it in the PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo eShop store just yet. But we wouldn’t be Startselect if we didn’t offer a solution to that minor issue. Just top-up your wallet with the necessary PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo eShop credit with our gift cards! That way, you can pre-order or buy Hogwarts Legacy the minute it is released.
Pre-ordering digitally has all kinds of benefits, such as preloading the game so you can start playing once the game is released. Which is usually when the clock strikes midnight, which is the perfect time for aspiring Evil Wizards to come out and change the Wizarding World forever. Accio gift cards!
