Are you as excited about the new Super Mario Party game as we are? Super Mario Party Jamboree will have the most minigames in the franchise and even introduces some new characters. Let’s meet Ninji and Pauline!
The Ninjis have been around in the Super Mario universe for quite some time. These ninja-like enemies first appeared in the Mario-game Super Mario Bros. 2, but their very first appearance was in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic all the way back in 1987.
The small characters all dressed in black, appear in all sorts of Mario games. They sometimes charge at you, or they can just jump up and down in one place. They’ve worked for different bosses, including Bowser and Bowser Jr.. In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the Ninji’s behave more like actual ninja’s and can even create shadow clones. These minions have not shown themselves in a Super Mario Party game, until now!
Did you know before Mario started saving Princess Peach, he had another girlfriend that got kidnapped? Back in 1981 Mario made his first appearance in the game Donkey Kong. In this game, Donkey Kong kidnaps Mario’s (then) girlfriend, Pauline. She continues to pop up in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, but Mario gradually seems to forget about her and replace her with Peach.
Eventually, Pauline pops up again in Super Mario Odyssey. Here, Pauline is the mayor of New Donk City, proving once and for all that she’s much more than just a damsel in distress. After Super Mario Odyssey we’ve seen Pauline as a tennis player, Mario karter and a golfer. Now, Pauline is finally making her well-deserved debut in Super Mario Party.
