There’s a lot going on in The Sims world at the moment. Is there going to be a Sims 5 or not? What is Project Rene? Will it replace The Sims 4? And what will happen to my DLC’s if it does? Don’t worry! We’ll tell you everything you need to know!
Did you spend lots of money collecting all The Sims 4 DLC’s? Don’t worry, your expansions are safe, for now. The last news that EA revealed about The Sims, is that Project Rene will be created alongside The Sims 4. Kate Gorman, EA’s vice president and general manager of “The Sims” franchise, explained to Variety that they don’t want Sims 4 players to start all over after a decade of playing. Instead, they are taking The Sims franchise in a new direction.
The Sims is currently in the beginning of this new direction they want to go in, and not all the details are clear yet. But for now, The Sims 4 and with that all your DLC’s are not going anywhere. There are some exciting new features and projects being announced, let’s get into it!
Project Rene will be a new way to play the Sims. The project will coexist alongside the Sims 4 focusses on multiplayer possibilities and building together online in a Sims world.
The last couple of months, more news about Project Rene got out. At first, this game was rumoured to be the code name for Sims 5, but EA cleared the air on that. One of Project Rene’s main selling points is that it is created for a multiplayer experience. Something that the franchise already tried with ‘The Sims Online’. “We have a lot of learnings from ‘The Sims Online.’ We know that there is an opportunity to play in a very social, real time, multiplayer environment within our gamespace,” Gorman explained to Variety.
The project is currently running small, invite-only playtests. So we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see what Project Rene actually has in store for us!
The Sims 4 has been around for 10 years now, and with that, it’s the longest running title in the franchise. EA is planning on keeping that party going as Gorman told Variety that they’ve no plans for a Sims 5 game. Instead, they want to keep Sims 4 as the base game and improve this title. “What this means is that we will continue to bring HD simulation experience and what people would want from a ‘5’ — but it doesn’t mean that we’re going to start you over, reset all your progress, and really feel like you’re going to lose all of that amazing play you put into ‘4,’”, Gorman explained to Variety.
Since the Sims 4 will continue to grow and, according to EA, won’t be replaced with a new title, now is the time to start improving your current Sims saves! Had your eye on that one DLC for a long time? Get it now with an Xbox, PlayStation, or Steam card!
