Season 1 of Modern Warfare 3 will officially launch on December 6. The first seasonal update for COD MW3 brings with it a brand new Warzone map, new Multiplayer maps and game modes, and new additions to Zombies. This is everything that’s new in Season 1 of MW3!
What’s new in Warzone for MW3 Season 1:
Warzone is getting a big revamp in Season 1, with a brand new map and several gameplay updates. This is what’s coming to Warzone 3:
- New Urzikstan map: a brand new map set in an urban landscape with 11 major points-of-interest, including the Popov Power Plant in the north and the Zaravan Suburbs in the south.
- Urzikstan game modes:
- Battle Royale: classic Warzone Battle Royale mode
- Urzikstan Resurgence: new limited-time mode centered around select points-of-interest from the Urzikstan map.
- Plunder: returning game mode in the team with the most cash wins, respawns enabled.
- Lockdown: returning game mode that functions similarly to Hardpoint.
- Slay Ride Resurgence: limited-time mode
- Carry forward maps that will still be playable:
- New movement mechanics: Warzone will be updated with new and returning movement mechanics, including:
- Slide cancelling
- Tac-Stance
- ADS while sliding
- Running while reloading
- Movement boost when using the Stim
- Gameplay updates:
- Backup Pistol: you now always have a pistol when swimming, climbing ladders, or ledge hanging.
- Improved Water Combat: improved water visibility, making it easier to spot enemies when in and out of water
- Manual Gas Mask: you can now manually (un)equip your Gas Mask.
- Experimental Gas Grenade: tear gas tactical that deals gas damage
- Dedicated Ammo Slots: specific Backpack slots are now designated to ammo for quicker access.
- Loot Rarity: weapons, equipment, killstreaks, and more will have a colorized tooltip indicating rarity
- Contract Activation Laptop: activate Contracts via easily identifiable laptops.
- Updated Tac Map Icons: updated Tac Map with easily distinguishable icons.
- Classic Red Dots: classic minimap with red dots appearing after a player fires an unsuppressed weapon.
- Improved Loot Spreading: loot overlap is minimized when opening Supply Boxes and eliminating enemies.
- New ways to traverse the map:
- Horizontal Ziplines: allow for faster travel across water or tall structures.
- Driveable Train: with forward and backward controls, handbrake, Buy Station, UAV Tower, Ammo Depot and Legendary Supply Crate.
- New vehicle:
- Coyote: lightly-armored offroad vehicle with a mounted machine gun.
- Big Game Bountry Contract: put a Bounty on the player with the most eliminations.
- Fly Buy Public Event: Drones fly in to drop additional Buy Stations on the map.
- Perks on by default: current Warzone perk system continues with the following Perks on by default:
- Tac Pads: improves slide distance, stance transition speeds and allows you to ADS while sliding.
- Commando Gloves: reload while running.
- Quick-Grip Gloves: increased weapon swap speed
- Climbing Boots: increased climbing and mantling.
- Overkill: carry two Primary Weapons
- New and returning Perks: these can be equipped as Custom Perks in your loadout:
- Irradiated: move faster and take less gas damage.
- Tempered: refill armor to full with only two plates.
- Combat Scout: bullets can ping enemies.
- Resolute: bonus to movement speed when taking damage.
- Shrouded: drops a smoke grenade when downed.
- Mountaineer: reduced fall damage.
- Stalker: increases strafe and ADS movement speed.
- Escapist: increased downed, prone, and crouch speeds.
- Primed: improves accuracy and ADS speed while jumping.
- Faculty: delays triggered explosives while sprinting, warns of nearby enemy equipment, and reduces combat noise.
- New Gulag: new environment and new gameplay:
- Ascender Overtime Finisher: overtime flag is replaced by an exfil rope allowing you to extract out of the gulag. You can shoot and be shot at while extracting.
- Gulag Public Events:
- Go Again: additional Gulag attempt if you lose the first fight.
- Cash Grab: more money on the floor and a big stack in the middle of the map.
- Locked & Loaded Weapons: receive an AMG + SMG Loadout with full armor.
- Night Vision Gulag: Gulag can sometimes go dark and players are equipped with night-vision goggles.
- Switching between MW3 and Warzone is quicker: a Call of Duty HQ Update will make switching between the two titles much more seamless.
What’s new in Multiplayer for MW3 Season 1:
Multiplayer is getting new maps and game modes on the Season 1 launch and in Season 1 Reloaded (mid-season):
- 2 new 6v6 maps (on launch):
- Meat: a compact map located at the East Bay Meats slaughterhouse.
- Greece: medium-sized map based on a mediterranean coastal town
- 1 new 6v6 map (mid-season):
- Rio: a close quarters map set centered around an upscale shopping center and nearby elegant streets.
- 7 new game modes:
- Gunfight game mode returns (on launch) with a brand new 2v2 map and four carry forward Gunfight maps from MW2:
- Training Facility (new): training course area with a central shoot house and several climbing spots.
- Alley (returning)
- Blacksite (returning)
- Exhibit (returning)
- Shipment (returning)
- All or Nothing (on launch): start with Throwing Knives and no ammo, get one elimination to activate Scavenger and retrieve ammo for your weapon.
- Vortex (limited-time mode, mid-season): free-for-all mode where one player spawns with the Ray Gun, eliminate this player to take over the Ray Gun. Played on three remixed Multiplayer maps:
- Satan's Quarry
- Sporeyard
- Tetanus
- CODMAS: Santa's Slayground (limited-time mode, mid-season): holiday themed game mode played on similarly themed maps:
- Infected (mid-season): survivors versus infected, one players starts as infected and can infect others by eliminating them.
- Headquarters (mid-season): secure the Headquarters location and hold it to earn points, respawns are disabled for the defenders.
- Team Gunfight (mid-season): 6v6 version of Gunfight, played on regular Multiplayer maps.
- New Stealthy Killer Perk (on launch): Assassin Vest - kills don't display skulls and you're immune to UAV and enemy radar effects.
- 2 new Killstreaks (on launch):
- Swarm (15 kills, 1.875 points): deploy mosquito drones that cover the entire map area
- EMP (13 kills, 1.625 points): disrupts enemy Killstreaks and equipment.
- Ranked Play (mid-season): competitive Multiplayer mode with Call of Duty League rules, restrictions, maps, and modes. Improve your skill rating to earn rewards.
What’s new in Zombies for MW3 Season 1:
Season 1 introduces a continuation of the Modern Warfare Zombies story and several new additions:
- New story Act (on launch): a massive gateway has spawned in the Exclusion Zone, players can engage for end-game content.
- Dark Aether Rifts (on launch): chaotic, labyrinth-like experience that challenges you to complete objectives and escape within a time limit, for exceptional rewards.
- V-R11 Wonder Weapon (on launch): modified version of the classic Wonder Weapon from Call of the Dead. Transforms enemies, both Zombie and Human, into allies.
- New Classified Schematics (on launch): craft new unique items with Schematics:
- Dog Bone: consume dog bone to summon a friendly Hell Hound
- Golden Armor Plate: replaces the Armor Carrier with Amor Plates that automatically repair over time and provide more damage resistances.
- Aether Blade: boomerang-like Throwing Knife with infinite ammo
- New Warlord Dokkaebi (mid-season): fight a new Terminus Outcomes Lieutenant that specializes in Electronic Warfare and uses autonomous drones.
Which events are in MW3 Season 1:
As traditional in previous seasonal updates for COD titles, Season 1 of MW3 will feature a limited-time event:
- Merry CODMAS (in-season): Christmas event that comes with new challenges and rewards:
- Slay Ride Resurgence: holiday-themed take on the Resurgence game mode.
- Deck the Halls: holiday crates that provide rewards and allow you to challenge Santa
- Zombie Santa: face off against a zombified Juggernaut Santa for valuable loot.
- Slay Ride: Santa takes over the train in Urzikstan with presents but also heavy resistance.
- Snowball Fights: lethal Snowballs that can be used in battle.
Which new Weapons and Operators are in MW3 Season 1:
Five new weapons will be available in Warzone, Multiplayer, and Zombies:
- XRK Stalker (on launch): sniper rifle made for one-hit eliminations.
- RAM-7 (on launch): lightweight assault rifle built for close to medium range engagements. fast handling and reload.
- Stormender (on launch): launcher that fires localizes EMPs, destroying equipment and Killstreaks.
- HRM-9 (in-season): high rate of fire SMG with excellent handling and mobility.
- TAQ Evolvere (in-season): versatile LMG effective on both infantry and artillery.
Three new Operators are availble to play in Warzone, Multiplayer, and Zombies:
- Nolan: once distinguised soldier rescued by Makarov.
- Dokkaebi: skilled spy and robotics engineer that executes drone attacks for Nolan and Makarov.
- Abolisher: new BlackCell Operator.
