So, what does the GTA 5 next-gen upgrade entail?

It's not the first time GTA V makes a generation leap. GTA 5 made its debut on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 before eventually coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. 

As you might’ve already experienced with other next-gen upgrades, you can expect some fantastic graphics and ultra-fast loading times. But what else is in the upgrade? We'll tell you everything we know:

• HDR options
• Faster loading time
• Mesmerizing 3D audio (Tempest 3D on PlayStation 5 and Spatial Sounds on Xbox Series X and S)
• Texture and draw distance upgrades
• Haptic feedback on PlayStation 5 and adaptive Triggers with the DualSense wireless controller
• A brand new, extensive GTA Online Tutorial
• GTA Online will have a standalone version from now on
• The possibility to skip the GTA 5 Story Mode Prologue as a new GTA Online player 
• Hao's Special Works car shop (found in the LS Car Meet) offers 'elite' upgrades for five existing and five new vehicles!
• New GTA Online players can use the Career Builder, which gives them direct access to one of four illegal jobs: Biker Club, Executive, Nightclub Owner or Gunrunner plus a GTA$ bonus. Lucky people!
  
  

Choose one of these three epic graphic settings

With the upgrade you can choose between three different graphic settings:

1. Fidelity mode supports 30 fps and true 4K resolution with ray tracing. Xbox Series S will enjoy upscaled 4K resolution. This is the setting with the highest visual quality for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. 

2. Performance mode is the most responsive setting - with 60 fps and upscaled 4K resolution for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (Xbox Series S gets a 1080p resolution).

3. Performance RT mode is a blend of fidelity and performance, aiming for 60 fps, upscaled 4K resolution and ray tracing. This setting is only available for the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 - and guarantees the ultimate gaming experience!

Transfer GTA 5 Save Game to PS5 and Xbox Series X and S

As a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X and S owner, you can safely transfer all your data from console to console with a one-time transfer. This applies to both Grand Theft Auto 5 Story Mode and Grand Theft Auto Online. 

You can even move your data cross-platform, from PlayStation 4 to Xbox Series X and S for example! Super cool, right?

How do I move my Story Mode save game?

You can move your Story Mode data by uploading a save game to your Rockstar Games Social Club account, and then downloading it on your new console. This is how you do it:

Upload the save game from your old console

1. Start GTA 5 on your old console
2. Go to the Game Tab of the Pause Menu
3. Select the option Upload Save Game
4. Select Sign in to the Rockstar Games Social Club 
5. Choose the Save Game and select Upload Save Game
6. Confirm that this is the Save Game you wish to upload in the warning screen
7. As soon as the upload is completed, you will receive a confirmation message
   
   

Please note only one save game can be uploaded per platform at a time. After that, it'll be available for a maximum of 90 days. You can still update this file until you decide to permanently download it to your new console. Because once you've downloaded it to your new console, nothing can be changed.

Download the save game on your new console

1. Install and start GTA 5 on your new console
2. Open the Pause Menu, choose Select Game followed by Download Save Game
3. Log in to your RockStar Games Social Club account.
4. Select the Save Game which you have uploaded to your account.
5. Confirm that this is the right Save Game you wish to download in the warning screen
6. As soon as the download is successful, you'll receive a confirmation.
7. Once finished, you'll be sent back to Story Mode
   
   

How do I move my GTA Online character?

Do you have a Rockstar Games Social Club account? Then you can migrate your GTA Online progression simply by starting the game on your new console, go to the Pause Menu, select Online and choose for 'Migrate Profile'. This includes all your in-game self-earned GTA cash, character, progression, stats, cars, weapons, houses, clothes and businesses. 

Purchased in-game credits cannot be moved cross-platform

Purchased in-game credits can only be moved from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X and S. Cross-platform, for example from Xbox One to PlayStation 5, you can only move the money you earned in-game! 

How much does GTA 5 cost on PlayStation 5?

So, GTA 5 next gen is not entirely for free. Until the 14th of June, GTA 5 will cost £ 8.75 on PlayStation 5 - and as a PS5 owner, you can play GTA Online for free! After that, you will pay £ 17.99 for GTA Online on PS5. After June 14th, PlayStation 5 owners can buy a GTA 5 and GTA Online bundle for £ 34.99.

How much will GTA 5 cost on Xbox Series X and S?

As an Xbox Series X and S owner, you will pay £ 8.99 for GTA Online until the 14th of June. A bundle of both games will cost £ 17.99 before then. After June 14th, you can buy GTA 5 and GTA Online as a bundle for £ 34.99.

Why first come with a GTA 5 next-gen upgrade and not GTA 6?

We have experienced legendary adventures in Los Santos for a long time now. And we’re not complaining! The business is going very well, we often chill on the deck of our Galaxy Super Yacht and we love to race the streets with our Pegassi Tezeract. However, we do understand that you might wonder why Rockstar Games decides to come up with a next-gen upgrade first. Well, there is a good explanation for that!

The main reason is that GTA 5 and its online counterpart GTA Online are tremendously successful. As Rockstar Games itself says, the GTA 5 community is now stronger than ever! That’s why it’s important to them to keep the community engaged across as many console gens as possible

But what is the release date of GTA 6?

The release date of GTA 6 isn't known yet. However, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that GTA 6 is in the works. SCORE! But how long will the development time be? 

In October 2011 Rockstar announced the release of GTA 5, after which the game eventually came out in September 2013. Would it take them the same time to develop GTA 6? Or perhaps longer? We can only wait and see, while we enjoy the awesome GTA 5 next-gen upgrade!
