FIFA 22 is finally here! The most anticipated football game of the year has officially dropped and we can’t wait to start building our dream squad in the new FIFA Ultimate Team mode. FUT 22 offers tons of new features such as seasonal progression, Elite Divisions and a new FUT Champions structure that works around your schedule. Ready to kick off your season? Here’s how to get the best start in FIFA 22!
At the start of your FUT journey, you’ll have to select a nation. This may seem like a trivial part of the game but it’s actually quite an important decision. The nation you select determines your first players. We recommend choosing a nation with many different leagues and a wide variety of good players: England. The English competition offers many great players from the Premier League. This means you might get lucky and pack players like Paul Pogba or Kevin De Bruyne, setting you up for a great start. Picking England also means you will receive players cards from four different leagues (Premier League, Football League Championship, Football League One, Football League Two). This will come in handy when completing your first Squad Building Challenges.
Eager to get started in FUT 22? So are we! But we do recommend that you take some time to check your Objectives before jumping right in. Completing objectives can net you new loan cards that are especially helpful during the start of your journey. So it’s definitely worth checking the progress on your Objectives. Easy challenges like playing a certain game mode can often be completed within a couple of minutes so don’t let those rewards go to waste!
The Division Rivals system has been completely reworked in FIFA 22. In previous iterations of the game, you would complete placement matches in order to be ranked in a Division. In FIFA 22, all players will start out in Division 10. This means that you may run into very skilled players during the first days of FUT 22. We’re not saying you shouldn’t give it a go, but it might not be a bad option to test the waters against the AI. You can complete Advanced Objectives when playing against the computer. So before you jump into Division Rivals, earn yourself some Player Packs and get your team ready for the real deal.
When you boot up FIFA 22 for the first time, you’ll be prompted to transfer all your FIFA Points from the previous game to the newest installment. If you’ve still got some leftover Points from last year, now’s the time to use them! Keep an eye out for this pop-up as it will only appear once. Still need some more FIFA Points after you’ve transferred all your old Points? We’ve got you covered!
Did you know that you can preview your Packs before you buy them? This preview feature was first introduced in FIFA 21 and allows players to preview the content of a Pack, before buying it. Once you’ve previewed a Pack, you can buy it within the next 24 hours. What this allows you to do is open Premium Packs free of charge, before you even have enough coins to buy them. If you get lucky and pull an amazing card like Neymar, you know you’ll need to save up your Coins to get it right away!
When you finish FUT Champions, you get to claim your rewards instantly. Use this to your advantage on the transfer market! For example, if you pick up better players with your FUT Champions rewards, you can sell your old players before they drop in value. If you wait until other players have unlocked and claimed their rewards, these players may have already lost a lot of their value. We’re not saying you should rush through all your FUT Champions matches to claim your rewards, but definitely get them as soon as you’re finished!
As we’ve previously discussed, you’ll start out in Division 10 in FIFA 22. This means that you’ll no longer be able to skip a bunch of ranks by playing well in your placement matches. As a result you’ll have to grind a lot longer to gain more Coins and purchase better players. We recommend giving lower rated players a chance while you’re slowly but surely working towards those better Player Cards. Players like Martin Braithwaite and Breel Embolo might not have the highest ratings but you can definitely make them work! Don’t be afraid to try out some of these lower rated players.
Speaking of players, let’s take a look at how you can combine your Player Cards to create the best starter teams in FIFA 22.
This first squad is a great all round starter team. It offers players from 4 different competitions which means it will be easier to upgrade while keeping your Chemistry intact. It’s also usable in different formations such as 4-4-2, 4-2-2-2 and 4-3-2-1.

The second team on our list is a little cheaper but a lot harder to upgrade with 11 players from Liga Portugal Bwin. Use this team to rack up Coins and upgrade to a completely new team when possible.

Got Coins and Points to spend? Then this is your perfect starter squad! The players on this team are more expensive but will last a lot longer with higher rated players like Chiesa and Maignan. This team functions best in formations with three midfielders like 4-3-3.
