Here’s ALL you need to know about FIFA21 Team of the Year!

FIFA TOTY used to be connected to the FIFPro World XI but Team of the Year has become a standalone in-game event and team. A league of its own, you could say. EA Sports makes a list of players. FIFA fans have the opportunity to vote for the nominees. That’s how the TOTY squad gets assembled. 

When will Team of the Year release?

The TOTY nominees voting closes on the 18th of January 2021. We expect the TOTY event to start on the 15th of January but this is not confirmed as of yet. The TOTY-event will last for one whole week. In previous years, TOTY has started sooner, from the 6th until the 14th of January. The final release of the whole TOTY was on the 15th  last year.

As we all know, the original FIFA21 release was pushed back last year. And we’ll take into account that the current Headliners promo – that started January 1st – is still running up until January 14. So it looks like the 15th is the most convenient to kick off the TOTY-event this month. 

The moment FIFA 21 TOTY goes live, packs will be released in batches or ‘waves’ for an entire week before the whole team, plus a 12th man, will become available on the last day. The selected Team of the Year players are only available in these special TOTY packs. Of course, it will be possible to trade them on the FIFA21 transfer market. 

Nominees

Although the FIFA 21 Team of the Year is entirely separate from the FIFPro World XI event, it’s expected that the TOTY nominees list will be pretty identical to its World XI counterpart. Which makes sense because both lists consist of the highest ranking players of the last 12 months. FIFA21 likes to keep the TOTY list a big secret up until the very last minute. For example, Allison Becker has already been named the Best Goalkeeper in World XI. But it is predicted that Manuel Neuer will be selected as the Best Goalkeeper of the Year in TOTY. 

For now, all we can do is share the FIFPro World XI list with you that (probably) won’t be much different from the expected TOTY list:

What about the Messi Mbappé and Ronaldo scores?

Absolute fan-favorites Messi Mbappé and Ronaldo are placed as Right Winger (Messi) and Left Winger (Ronaldo) Strikers in FIFPro World XI Team of the Year.

And don’t forget about the extra voting-round to pick a 12th man for the Team of the Year. Games have the option to vote for an extra player that unfortunately didn’t make it into the first TOTY-selection. Kind of like a bonus! For this year, it’s expected that Neymar Messi will be the most popular ‘underdog’ to make 12th man in the FIFA21 Team of the Year. 

How do I obtain the best players

As soon as the TOTY-promo goes live, there will be so-called Lightning Rounds, making the best packs of FIFA21 available for purchase in the FUT-store, alongside the regular packs. There are a few types of packs that increase the chance of obtaining the TOTY star players! These special promo-packs are usually only available for a limited amount of time - like an hour or so - during events like Team of the Year. 

That means it’s very important to keep a close eye on those Lightning Rounds and make sure you get them just in time. So make sure there are enough FIFA Points on your account at all times! When it comes to the special packs there’s a variety of choices, like the ‘Jumbo Rare Players’ or the ‘Ultimate’ packs that can help you get as many top players as possible.
