Published on: 18-07-2022 Author: Kiki

You might be all too familiar with this situation: you've just finished a really good anime on Crunchyroll. You were totally into it and now you have no idea what to watch next. Well, you're in luck, because the internet is full of anime top 10 lists, so the anime lovers at Startselect sat down to create the perfect list just for you. These are the 9 best animes on Crunchyroll according to us!

9. Naruto en Naruto Shippuden

Don't get us wrong, we're huge Naruto fans. However, we would like to reward other animes with a higher place in our list, as most of you have probably already watched Naruto. If you haven't seen Naruto already, we highly recommend you to give this series a chance! That's why we kick off our list with this must-see anime.

In Naruto, we follow the story of, yes indeed, Naruto Uzumaki in his teenage years. This young ninja has great ambitions. In fact, he dreams of becoming the leader (Hokage) of his village. After finding out that the Nine-Tailed-Fox was sealed into his body, he eventually learns what this power means to him.

In Naruto Shippuden we see a slightly older Naruto with more experience, and we discover that there are more 'tailed people' like Naruto, who are captured and being killed...

What to watch after Naruto?

Can't get enough of Naruto? Then you should also watch Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. This anime series takes place after Naruto Shippuden. You'll see exactly what Naruto is like as a parent - and how much Buroto resembles him. You'll also meet the kids of your other favourite Naruto characters!

8. One-Punch man

Saitama lives in a city called Z-City, which seems to be attracting various monsters. Since there is very little - if any - protection, Saitama decided to become a superhero, so that he can protect the citizens of his town. But what is the origin of the name of this anime? Well, you might have guessed it already. Saitama is not only very bald, but also incredibly strong. He can therefore defeat scary monsters in just one punch!

Because it's so easy for Saitama to defeat the monsters, he gets bored very quickly. He also fails to find a worthy opponent who can match his superpowers. Besides that, he desperately wants his achievements as a superhero to be recognised by the townspeople. He therefore joins a hero society. He didn't do very well during his admission, so that's why they place him in the lowest class. Put One-Punch Man in your Crunchyroll anime watchlist to see if and how Saitama works his way up!

7. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 aka: JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken) is indeed what the title says: a bizarre adventure. It’s actually a series of several adventures that all revolve around members of the Joestar family. All members of this family discover - in their own unique way - that they possess special powers to defeat supernatural enemies.

Both the animated series and the manga from which it is derived are split into several parts, each telling the story of a different family member. However, all their names can be abbreviated to JoJo, so the title of the series still stands. It's something different, so if you like bizarre adventures, this is definitely recommended! This anime has also been converted into a Live Action movie, if that's more your thing.

6. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a fairly new manga and anime series. The manga was released in 2016 and the first season op the anime was released in 2019. Kimetsu no Yaiba means Blade of Demon Destruction.Tanjiro Kamado is a sweet, smart boy who lives with his family in the mountains. But after a long day's work, he comes home only to find out that his family has been brutally murdered, and his sister has been Nezuko turned into a demon. That's when Tanjiro decided to become a demon slayer. His life goal is to turn his sister back into a human and to avenge his family! You can now watch the Entertainment District Arc of this anime on Crunchyroll.

5. One Piece

One Piece tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy who, after eating a devil's fruit, obtains a rubber-like body. This funny guy explores the ocean together with his crew members called 'the Strawhat Pirates'. He is looking for the 'One Piece', a hidden treasure that would make him King of the Pirates.

In this fantasy adventure anime series you'll see, among other things, how Luffy finds his crew members. He recruits a swordsman called Roronoa Zoro, who becomes a very close friend. Later, he meets Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Tony Chopper, who all accompany Luffy on The Going Merry - the ship he is given. Together, they confront many other pirates, including Buggy the Clown and Don Krieg. Will Luffy succeed in becoming the Pirate King?

4. Jujutsu Kaisen

This Dark-Fantasy series starts from the concept that every living being carries a Cursed Energy. Normal people have no control over this energy, so they constantly emit and lose their Cursed Energy uncontrollably and without noticing. These Curses then re-emerge in the form of monstrous spirit-beings that are a danger to humanity. Not cool! That’s why there are Jujutsu Sorcerers to fight these evil Curses. Jujutsu sorcerers do have control of the Cursed Energy in their body and can therefore wield their special powers to fight Curses.

Time to introduce our protagonist Yuji. This boy is super fit and athletic, but prefers to spend his free time on an Occult Research Club rather than on extracurricular sports activities and training. It’s also more convenient to combine with visiting his dying grandfather more often. Meanwhile, a talisman in the shape of a rotting finger is brought to life by the Occult Research Club. This basically becomes a beacon for all kinds of Curses, which are now targeting the school.

To protect the others, Yuji swallows this evil finger (because why not) and becomes the host of an evil and very powerful Curse. The now-possessed Yuji must enroll in the Jujutsu High School to learn how to survive this possession. Obviously, he also goes on the tons of wildly exciting adventures, because well, getting possessed after swallowing a demon finger doesn't happen every day. Better get some good stories out of it!

3. My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia, or 僕のヒーローアカデミア, Boku no Hīrō Academia follows the adventures of young Izuku Midoriya, a so called Quirk because he is born without superpowers. Nonetheless, he still dreams of becoming a superhero. He then gets scouted by All Might, the most famous superhero of Japan. All Might shares a part of his powers with Izuku when he sees his potential, after Izuku saves a bully from a Villain. These powers also allow him to attend a special high school training academy specifically designed for Heroes. Of course, that’s when the mayhem truly sets off!

My Hero Academia has been immensely popular for some time now. Aside from the 5 seasons that are currently ongoing, three movies have been released so far. Two Heroes (2018), Heroes: Rising (2019) and a third movie named World Heroes’ Mission, which was released this year. So once you start watching My Hero Academia at least you’ll know for sure there’s plenty of it, all stacked up and ready to binge-watch to your heart’s content!

2. Bleach

Are you ready for one of the best animes, with a healthy dose of humour, combined with some serious fighting scenes - and a lot of blood? Then Bleach is definitely the series for you. Personally, we're big fans of this anime series.

Bleach follows the story of Ichigo Kurosaki - a high school student with orange hair who one night meets the mysterious Rukia Kuchiki. As Rukia fails to defeat a powerful Hollow, she turns Ichigo into a temporary Soul Reaper. With his heightened sensitivity to the spirit world, he notices that more of his friends at school have a connection to the supernatural.

Once Ichigo reaches Soul Society, Rukia is captured and sentenced to death for her reckless behaviour. It turns out she was framed by one of the high-ranking Soul Reapers. But will Ichigo be able to save Rukia and defeat the enemy?

New Bleach series announced

For those of you who have already seen Bleach - and are also in love with the anime - there's good news! After 10 years, the time has finally come. A new series called Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is about to be released. It's currently unknown when exactly it will be available on Crunchyroll. But as far as we know, it will first air on other channels in October 2022.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is about the final story arc of the Bleach manga, volumes 55 through 74. In the new Bleach trailer you can get a taste of how cool the visuals will be:

1. Attack on Titan

The Japanese name for Attack on Titan is 進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin) which literally means Advancing Giants. The show first aired in Japan in 2013. Attack on Titan takes place in a world where people live in cities surrounded by huge walls, in order to keep the Titans out. These humanoid giants are known to devour any human they get their hands on.

In the first season of Attack on Titan you’ll meet Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackermann and their friend Armin Arlelt. They have all had a traumatic experience in the past, as a Colossal Titan destroyed their homes and killed Eren’s mother. Now, the group has joined the elite Scout Regiment to fight the Titans outside of the city walls, to get revenge and take back the land that was once theirs.

But that’s only the beginning of the story! Since 2013, Attack on Titan is currently on its fourth and final season. The first part of this 4th season has aired and can be watched already. The second part of The Final Season has been postponed until winter 2022. So you will actually have something to look forward to, if you start watching Attack on Titan now!
