Longlegs was one of the most surprising horror movies from 2024. Moviegoers weren’t expecting the unsettling pacing and images. It’s really one of those films that makes you feel uneasy, but you don’t really know why. The film follows an FBI agent who’s searching for a serial killer. Her pursuit leads her to a bunch of occult mysteries that she has to solve in order to end the killing spree. It’s best not to know too much about this one before going in, but we can tell you one thing: the ending will leave you in absolute shock.

You’ve probably seen the fighting scenes from this movie once in your life. Huge battles with dozens of people making incredible attacks while blood is spraying everywhere. 6. The Lego Movie

Okay, The Lego Movie may seem like a random pick to have on a ‘Best Movies’ list, but what if we told you it’s one of the funniest movies we’ve ever seen? In the film, we see how the optimistic, but unimaginative, construction worker, Emmet, becomes an unlikely hero in a war on creativity. The animation is really well done. The story is also heartwarming and very funny, even for adults. This is because The Lego Movie actually manages to pull off the self-aware humour. There are lots of 4th-wall-breaks and unexpected jabs, which will have you laughing for hours on end.

More info:

  • Director: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller
  • Actors: Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks
  • Release date: 2014
  • Runtime: 1 hour and 41 minutes

5. Interstellar

One masterpiece you absolutely can’t miss if you have an Amazon Prime account is Interstellar. In the movie, Earth is slowly becoming uninhabitable due to a global crop blight. Luckily, a NASA physicist found the solution: relocating Earth’s population through a wormhole. But a team of researchers has to test this theory first. Interstellar is a thought-provoking movie that explores what could happen when the Earth runs out. Especially the emotional consequences that humankind has to endure are very realistically portrayed. This one will stick with you for a long time.

More info:

  • Director: Christopher Nolan
  • Actors: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain
  • Release date: 2014
  • Runtime: 2 hours and 49 minutes

4. Midsommar

Dani Ador travels with her boyfriend to a rural town in Sweden to experience the midsummer festival. What seems like a wholesome getaway soon turns into a bizarre pagan cult ritual. What made this movie so special when it first came out, was the fact that it’s entirely set in the daylight. So no dark corridors, dimly-lit rooms or misty forests. But this doesn’t make it any less scary. It’s not crazy to say that Midsommar is one of the best horror movies from the 2010s. Truly, you won’t know what’s coming your way!

More info:

  • Director: Ari Aster
  • Actors: Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Vilhelm Blomgren
  • Release date: 2019
  • Runtime: 2 hours and 28 minutes

3. Dune

If you like visually pleasing sci-fi epics, Dune is 100% a movie you should check out. Based on the book of the same name, it tells the story of Paul Atreides, who needs to protect and govern Arrakis. This desert planet is the universe’s only source of the highly valuable spice melange, which makes it very vulnerable to attacks. The main selling point of this movie is definitely the stunning shots of faraway planets and the score, which is beautifully crafted by Hans Zimmer. These 2 elements combined will make it feel like you’re actually travelling through the universe.

2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

It might seem odd to have a cartoon version of a superhero movie as the number 2 on this list, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is something else. This movie manages to bring something unique and different to the Spider-Man franchise. Which is very difficult if you’re working with such an established character like this superhero. The animation's style perfectly captures the look and feel of the comics, while the witty dialogue carries the youthful humour that belongs with a hero like this.
