Nintendo's newest console, the Nintendo NX, is cause for an incredible amount of rumours. But thanks to a press release, at least we finally know when it's released. Here's everything we know about the Nintendo NX.

Nintendo has finally released a tiny bit more info on their new console, codenamed Nintendo NX. The Japanese company has announced that the console will be released March 2017, following a full unveiling later this year. Don't expect it at the E3, however.
There's been strong rumours about the Nintendo NX being a console/handheld hybrid. Early patents filed by Nintendo point to a controller that's almost entirely a screen. Nintendo being one of the first clients to support Sharp's free-form display technology solidified these rumours, leading to some very futuristic mock-ups.
There's also talks about the console actually being a very powerful handheld that is able to stream to a TV through an HDMI-dongle. This mirrors the Wii U's ability to stream from the console to the handheld, but it's an important difference…
…especially considering the rumours about the NX's hardware. It is said to be as powerful as (or even more powerful than) the current-gen consoles. This would put Nintendo back in the game with Sony and Microsoft, and make the platform interesting for triple-A games once again. The lack of support from third-party developers has definitely hurt the Wii U's catalogue, so getting those companies back on board for the NX is probably a smart move.
In addition to the NX release, Nintendo also announced the new Zelda game that's in development for the Wii U, has been delayed until March 2017. Yes, the very same month the new console will release. The new Legend of Zelda will release on both the Wii U and the NX, much like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess appeared on both Gamecube and Wii, back in the day.
Talking about games, Dr. Serkan Toto – a game industry consultant in Japan – tweeted that a Super Smash Bros. game is planned to be an NX launch title. Having both Zelda and Super Smash right there at the console's release might be the best system-selling combo we've ever seen.
But let's look a bit further than that. GamesRadar is speculating about maybe even releasing Beyond Good & Evil 2 on the Nintendo NX. Their logic is that Nintendo has stepped in to fund cult-favourites before, meaning Bayonetta 2's exclusive release on the Wii U.
We will probably have to wait until after the E3 before we can have any definitive facts about the Nintendo NX. Nintendo is famous for picking their own moments in the spotlight by doing Nintendo Direct broadcasts outside of the usual E3/Gamescom/TGS triangle. Or could they steal everyone's thunder by announcing the NX right before the E3…?
