In preparation for the release of World of Warcraft: Legion, Blizzard has launched its usual pre-patch this week. There's some new content and a lot of balance changes. Here’s everything you need to know about patch 7.0.3.

Traditionally a few weeks before a new expansion hits the world of World of Warcraft, Blizzard launches a pre-patch that delivers some of the changes early on. Today is that day, with the release of patch 7.0.3. It hardly contains any new content, but changes to classes and other mechanics have been enabled so players can get used to them before the actual expansion launches. Let’s talk about some of the biggest changes.
Transmogrification
Transmogrification enables you to make your gear look like other pieces of gear, and was introduced during Cataclysm. But it’s always been kind of a hassle. To make your brand new sword look like that awesome sword from one of your very first raids, you would still need to have that one in your bank somewhere.
This resulted in players having their bags and banks full of various pieces of gear, so they could always swap out different styles and sets at the Transmogrifier. That is now something of the past, with the introduction of the Transmogrification Collections system. Much like mounts and pets (remember having to haul those around as well?), the appearances of your armor is stored in a special tab, even if you’ve sold or destroyed the original gear.
This enables you to switch out different styles without clogging up your storage with outdated armor. You can create and save different outfits that can be tied to your talent specializations, so your armor set will automatically switch when you select a different spec. This all may seem like a small user-interface update, but as someone who loves hunting for transmog gear this is one of the most exciting new features this expansion.
Class changes
Another big thing in every expansion pre-patch is the changes to how classes play. All of the classes have received another big revamp, especially in how many skills they have and how they work together. Blizzard aims to have classes and specializations play more like they once envisioned their lore and fantasy. For example; Survival Hunters are now a melee class, while Beast Mastery Hunters can summon even more beasts. Blizzard has explained it all in their class preview blogs.
Burning Legion invasions
World of Warcraft: Legion is all about the Burning Legion returning to Azeroth. Before venturing to The Broken Shore - Legion’s new continent - the demons will invade familiar regions into demon-infested battlefields. At this moment, none of these events seem active yet, although the Blue and Bronze dragonflight are already defending big cities like Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
The Battle on the Broken Shore begins
We’re not sure what Blizzard means by this, as this content is not available yet. But the developer promises players will have to take the fight to the Broken Shore as the situation grows more dire. Does this mean we can access the new areas before the expansion itself launches?
Demon Hunter
Players who have pre-ordered Legion, can expect to be playing the Demon Hunter very soon. Before August 17, all eligible players will have early access to the new class. I’ve already been playing around with it on the alpha and beta versions of the expansion and let me tell you; it’s great.
The Demon Hunter is a very mobile and agile class, with some pretty cool mechanics. You can do a double-jump, leap away from your target after dealing some heavy damage, then throw your glaives at them and dash back. Or you can even leap into the air and smash down on the ground while transforming into a bad-ass demon.
Prepare for launch
You can check out these new features in World of Warcraft right now by logging in to the game. Would you rather wait for the actual expansion? World of Warcraft: Legion launches on August 30.
