One of the few recent games on our list, is already on of our favourites. High speed action all the way through. We can't wait to see how the speedrun scene around this game develops.
Half-Life is a staple by now for GDQ. The excessive amount of bunnyhopping, glitches and out of bounds tricks is astounding. Just over half an hour of pure speedrunning as it was intended.
The game's insane difficulty gives it this notorious reputation. Making this run into a two-player race just adds to the fun.
This game is a trip through all the era's of Sonic. 2D, 3D, 2,5D, it all happens here, as the switches between these different viewpoints are heavily exploited to turn a very fun game into a very fun speedrun.
It's easy to discard this game as "Sonic Clone". However, that would be a bit easy, as the speedrun of this game requires the same (if not more) skill, execution and planning as Sonic does. And it is extremely fun to watch.
Okay, this is Super Monkey Ball at GDQ. Just watch.
Symphony of the Night is a timeless classic, and one with a huge speedrun community. If you can stand the backjump spam, this is a must see for speedrun enthusiasts.
This run was already hyped before the event started. An insane game, mad even more insane by interference from the audience (twitch viewers) and a very special visit from the developer!
Mega Man is also one of the pillars of GDQ. Many different versions and settings have been showcased in the past. But a race between 4 of the best speedrunners in the world is just out of this world. 3 of them finishing less than a minute apart guarantees you're at the edge of your seat the entire time!
It just never gets boring watching Chrono Trigger.
Another Zelda run? YES. Why? This one is different. very different. Did you know that you can complete the game without the sword? I thought so. Did you know that you can finish in just over an hour without the sword? Exactly, that's why you need to watch this one.
Crypt of the Necrodancer is made for speedrunning. The rhythm, the pace, the music, it all comes together in probably the shortest race of this year's GDQ.
Ok, mario has been done before. Mario races have been done before too. So this year, there was something very special. 3 teams of 5 runners speedrunning 5 Mario games in a relay race. The first 5 mario games in less than 3 hours.
One more very recent game. Titanfall 2 is all about movement, and this run is the perfect illustration of how to abuse this movement to the max. An insanely fun game run in a way that makes gravity seem non-existent.
What would GDQ be without Dark Souls? The most recent game run by ThorW. The category is All Bosses which is just the cherry on top.
This insane Mario World mod is equally hilarious as it is difficult. The couch banter is legendary as well. Watch this guy destroy the given estimate in an awesome run, only topped by the puns on the couch.
Mario 64 is the ultimate speedrun game. For years, Siglemic had the World Record, and the scene seemed to get a little stale. The past year, a man named Cheese05 was quickly rising the ranks, besting the World Record 4 times already. Here is the current World Record Holder casually getting a 1:41 at a marathon. Godlike!
This was a bonus incentive achieved very late in the marathon. The quirk here is that the 2-player co-op mode is run by 1 person. Yes, 2 screens, 2 controllers, 1 person. And he's reaching whole others levels of gamebreaking. Impressive!
