So far we’ve got trailers and short gameplay videos, so we don’t know everything so far. But one thing is for sure, Super Mario Odyssey will be one of the best Mario games ever released. In every trailer you can see Cappy, a new friend of Mario, that will play a major part in the game. Thanks to Cappy, you can take over people, creatures and objects to use them to overcome certain parts of the map. Take a rocket to easily float in the sky or change yourself into a big dinosaur and crush other creatures. In Super Mario Odyssey everything is possible. There are some new additions to the game that we will discuss below. If you're curious about how these additions look in the game, watch the video at the bottom of the page.
In Super Mario Odyssey, you will travel around the world to free Princess Peach from Bowser's evil marriage plans. With new moves, you have to collect moons and provide your airship, the Odyssey, with fuel. Explore the huge 3D world full of secrets and surprises. Get taken to magical locations far beyond the mushroom kingdom. Experience cities like New Donk City metropolis, beat new enemies and discover new moves. Drive around in new vehicles and explore the area as pixel Mario
Stars have been replaced with Power Moons in Super Mario Odyssey. You’ll need these stars to get further in Mario's world. Power Moons are hidden in different spots in each location. Some of them are easy to find, while others can be found in difficult places such as big heights or secret doors.
As mentioned earlier, Cappy is one of the biggest differences in Super Mario Odyssey. Cappy is a hat that Mario can throw away to defeat enemies and break things. Cappy also has the ability to take over objects and creatures so you can control them. This creates an innovative gameplay that you get used to in a short time.
In the game, you will change to 2D a number of times. In these short levels comes a piece of nostalgia from the old Super Mario games. It plays smoothly and gives a nice variation to the game.
In Super Mario Odyssey you have to explore a lot. If you only walk through the story, you will not fully explore every location. Nintendo encourages you to have seen every corner of every world. You will be rewarded for your exploring qualities. The last time you could explore the world in Super Mario was Super Mario Sunshine in 2002, so take your time.
