An old man is on his deathbed, with one last wish to fulfill: to go to the moon. Play as Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts, two doctors who specialize in making the dreams of dying people come true. At least, in their patients heads. You play as the doctors, but the game is not about them. It's about Johnny. As the doctors traverse Johnny's life, starting at the end and working their way to the beginning, they change key events in his memories to fulfil his lifelong dream. As you work to fulfill an old man's dream, you get to know Johnny, discover the relationship with his late wife River and find out why it's his dying wish to visit the moon.
The Gameplay of To the Moon is simple, consisting of moving the scientists through Johnny's past and finding objects that allow them to progress through the memories. Occasionally a puzzle shows up to be solved, but To the Moon isn't meant to be played like a puzzler or an adventure game, it's meant to be experienced like the poignant story that it tells.
