App Highlight: SPACEPLAN

Spaceplan is a clicker game in which you save a dead planet with clicks, solar panels and a lot of potatoes.

Usually I like to test out a couple of apps before selecting one to highlight for our weekly selection. However, after I'd spent fifteen minutes enthousiastically clicking away completely engrossed in SPACEPLAN, there was really no other contender for this week. SPACEPLAN is just so strangely addicting that it deserves this week's App Highlight. Let's take a look at the trailer to get acquainted.

"It's a clicker. It has an ending". The words with which SPACEPLAN is selling itself might be enough to make fans of the clicker genre enthousiastic, but there is more to this game than the trailer gives away. SPACEPLAN is a strangely addicting game in which you orbit a myserious planet in a spaceship with only an aloof AI to guide you. It's your job to generate power for the spaceship by using solar generators, potatoes and good ol' fashioned clicking. Every click gives you energy, which you can use to buy new potato generators, new solar generators or upgrade your current ones. As the game progresses and your power gain increases drastically, you'll be given access to ever more crazy and efficient potato-based power-generating devices. After your hard work at the start, you'll soon be able to lean back and watch as you rake in thousands of watts of energy a second without doing a thing. You can leave the game running and do something else for a while and when you return, you'll have some overwhelming power built up.

Clicking and waiting for the sake of more effective clicking and waiting might seem like an ultimately useless affair. As the game itself advertises, however, SPACEPLAN has an ending. Where the game starts out as a goofy game about generating energy using potatoes, it grows into a sci-fi adventure with an interesting story. As you survey the planet below you, you find out its identity, how it died and how to possibly save it. Whether you love Sci-Fi, potatoes or neither, you'll enjoy this one. Not convinced? Try the game out for free here.
