Touching a fungus is probably not something you enjoy doing. Yet it’s exactly what Mushroom 11 is all about, and it’s brilliant.

The struggle for life has inspired many a book, movie or game, and Mushroom 11 is one of the most poignant games about life’s eternal will to survive in whatever form necessary. In Mushroom 11 you control a new lifeform: a fungus that looks like a green blob.
The method of controlling your fungal lifeform is destroying it. Through touching the screen of your device, you erase a part of the blob, causing it to regenerate on the other side. This way you can shape the lifeform into different shapes, allowing it to squeeze through small areas, press switches and even fight bosses. It’s a constant struggle for life as parts of the mold get lost in your travels and grow back by eating other innocent lifeforms. Eh... Circle of life?
Mushroom 11 was originally released for PC in 2015 and widely received positive critical response. The move towards mobile devices might to have made the game even better, as the way you shape the fungus lends itself very well to devices with a touch-screen, allowing for intuitive and innovative gameplay. The worlds in Mushroom 11 is beautifully dreary and the music calm, yet unsettling, creating a perfect atmosphere for this oddly brilliant game.
