I think it’s safe to say I have a weak spot for mobile games with a strike visual style. I’ve talked about The Trail, PinOut! and LIMBO here before and they all have their own type of graphics. That’s probably why After the End: Forsaken Destiny immediately got my attention, even despite the cheesy name.
Both visually and in its gameplay, After the End is a nice blend between Journey and Monument Valley. You guide a mysterious black-and-orange figure through ancient ruins, where you will solve puzzles and hunt for artifacts like statues. The story is told mostly without any dialogs or text, just like Journey.
The story does however come back in the game’s puzzles. Apparently you’re playing a father who’s looking for his son, who took the same journey some time ago. In some levels you’ll switch between the two timelines to solve the puzzles. Other times the puzzles rely heavily on pulling levers or pushing buttons and swooping the game's camera around the levels to find hidden paths and treasures.
After the End: Forsaken Destiny has a one-time purchase price of €3,99 (iOS) or €4,59 (Android). You can download the game through the buttons below, but don’t forget to stock up on iTunes or Google Play credit!
